15世紀の沖縄で「皇帝」を意味する言葉の「音」を表記する3文字「倭的毎 (をーつみぃ)」を「倭的海」と書いても同じ音になることから「綿津見、海神(わたつみ)」という言葉には『倭(わ=日本)の海』と言う意味が込められている。
